Irish Family Lineage

I’ve been digging into my family’s genealogy for a couple of years now, and the research I’ve done has led to a deep respect for the Irish name. It has also led to some interesting facts about us Irish’s.
For instance, one of my ancestors, John Irish II, was left money by Myles Standish in his will.
Also, the first John Irish came over on the ship “Talbot” in 1629.
We also have a family crest, which is an honor that not every family has.
It dates back to Sir Adam de Ireys (b. abt 1070). He is the earliest known ancestor. He accompanied Godfrey of Bouillon to the Holy Land on the First Crusade. During the Crusade, he slew a Saracen leader of high rank, severing his head from his body by one blow of his sword. For his service in the Crusade, he was knighted and given the right to a Coat of Arms.
Above is the Irish Coat of Arms. The Latin translates to “Always Constant and Faithful”.
Here is my lineage all the way back to Sir Adam de Ireys.

  5. Actually I have a little something extra for you, I have the descendant sheet all the way bak to the fifth crusade.

  6. The coat of arms is exact and actually Richard Irish (or Ireshe) accompanied King Richard Coeur de Lion (Yeah, King Richard the Lion) in the fifth crusade to the Holy Land, in commemoration of which event the family bear in the coat of arms the St. George cross, an emblem only given to those who participated in the effort to recover Jerusalem and the Holy places from the Saracens.

  7. I just found something else interesting, I have the ancestry from the descendants still living in England. Apparently Stephen D’Iryshe abt. 1180 -? has a brother named Edmund D. Iryshe (Some of our names are off? If you are interestd I can scan in the papers I have?

  14. Hi Chad,
I too am a decendant of John Irish. My lineage is John, John, Jonathan, Jesse, Jesse,Pardon, Joseph, Samuel, Bloomfield, Charles, Harvey, and me Delana.

  15. Chad,
I started digging about a year ago and found much of the same info. I’m glad to see that the Irish’s are so enclosed in a concentrated surname. Its not like we’re the “Smith’s” and really widespread. Anyway, I’m very proud of your work. I am from Michigan originally now in Florida. My name is Shawn Irish, my son is Corbin. Take care, cousin!

  16. Chad,
Not sure if you are still following this blog, but much like the other bloggers here I recently trace my roots back to Sir Adam De Ireyes as well. The most interesting fact here is the Family coat of arms, which my Grandmother painted and is still displayed on a wall in my Mothers house. My Grandmother’s name was Edna Maud Irish (1906-2006). Her father was Willis Irish and his father was James V. Irish. I also traced John Irish and his wife Elizabeth (Risley) who traveled aboard the Talbot and laned in Salem, Massachuestts, June 27, 1629. Looking at your lineage above…there seems to be something missing, as I cannot find the names you had listed. Maybe you can fill be in. My name is Christopher White, from Marland.

  17. Delana, I’m close to you. I break off your branch at Joseph Irish. Your tree followed Stephen. Mine follows his brother Nathaniel.

  18. Tim, My tree veers off from yours at Samuel (not Stephan), Nathaniel’s brother. So, that means we are only three generations apart. Samuel was my great-grandfather’s father. If you read this, I would like to get in touch with you .

  19. How it going. I actually have a book on the family tree, and my brother has the coat of arms tatoo’ed on his chest. We live in Canada, and my grandfather (dad’s dad) is originally from Minnesota, he was deceased before I was born.
